After a long day of data migrations, BrandYourself has gone live! Go check it out
I finally got around to migrating chote.net over to tumblr. This will allow me to publish some content without having to jump through the hoops of maintaining the codebase. Hopefully this will get me posting more server/infrastructure related items.
BrandYourself is getting REALLY close to launch, just a few maintenance/optimization stuff and minor typo hunting/fixing. We should be launching early next week!
I spent a good solid evening and early morning debugging STP and IGMP-snooping trying to get my Sonos setup working correctly with zone groups of more than 2 nodes. I could not however get it working with 80% of the nodes hard wired to my LAN.
In the end, my solution which works amazingly was to reset the STP layer to a near base configuration, a few tweaks to ensure certain ports did not become base. I then did the same for IGMP-snooping, applied a blanket layer across all vlans.
I then added 2 Sonos bridges, one in the basement for the house, one in the garage for outdoors. Then proceeded to disconnect ALL playback nodes from the LAN leaving them wireless only.
Problem solved, I can now playback in any zone group combination (even one giant zone group) without any issues at all.
I also got around to setting up samba on my new fileserver to allow the Sonos to access my music collection. I will now have a good music filled summer :)
I have spent the evening trying to debug my >2 zones at once zonegroup issue… I have gotten pretty deep with spanning tree, and igmp snooping + multicast groups… whee
chote.net lost a lot of relevance on google after I stripped out all the content with the new design. And because I fully lack any motivation to make a decent site on there right now, I may as well plug the domain in to this tumblr blog. I think it will get me publishing actual content if I do so. So shortly I will begin creating a theme and moving it over.
We have been slaving over a hot fire fixing bugs and enhancing backend code, and have just done probably the last BrandYourself release for 2012 (hopefully)!
We are busy working on wonderful new things at BrandYourself! Stay tuned.
My power bill is out of control, and its mainly the fault of my server room :D
This means I will be consolidating all the storage+servers in to a more energy efficient system, and selling off all this glorious hardware.
